Pippa Eason’s residency ran from April 17th – April 23rd 2017.
Inhabiting our Facebook and Instagram accounts, her output focused on maintaining her slick Instagram portfolio.
Her biography spoke of how her practice makes observations on abstraction & the perception of nature, the tangible, the everyday, and how she considers it within the accelerating art world. She is particularly interested in how our language has naturally developed into a post-net, post-visual, image fuelled lexicon. This is why she uses motifs and symbols such as chains, international currency, emoji and Internet ephemera, which articulate the separation of art in life, against art on screen.
She has an intimate relationship with her materials using the residency to show us that very process from the start. She produced casts, digital works, molds and sculptures from clay, ice and plaster that all combine the cyber world and the physical world. The formulation of a 'slick' instagram feed is current and in some ways now necessary for an artist to propel their career. This residency was pertinent to her assessing the aesthetics of online media vs. the 'real'. Which is most relevant now in current culture?
