Emily Simpson’s residency ran from March 6th - March 12th 2017.
Inhabiting our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr accounts, her output focused on nostalgia and search engines.
Her biography spoke of uncertainty due to the current climate, in a world that is politically ambiguous and socially shifting, in which we’re not sure if we’re residing in the IRL or the URL. She believes the Internet is a place for storage and research, wondering WHy aRe mILLeniALs bEinG sOLd NosTalGiA?
She is also interested in sharing with us everything she’s Googled over the last two years, via images and Power Point presentations. Inspired by the Snoopers Charter (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000), she looks at the things we under share in a culture of over sharing. She feels that search histories are an intimate thing, and that our browsing patterns and online habits are truly revealing.
She used the residency as a period of time to welcome us into her practice and extend her current areas of focus.
