Bob Bicknell-Knight’s residency ran from April 10th - April 16th 2017.
Inhabiting our Facebook and Instagram accounts, his output focused on his relationship to online communities and surveillance.
His biography spoke of the consumer capitalist culture we live within in current society and the main issues surrounding our interest in video games.
He presents dubious SMS texts that have been highlighted for their taboo language, mirroring NSA, MI5 & CIA intelligence techniques and the state of our constant monitoring. Language such as “I’d kill for a double bed. Or even just a room that could fit one in” and “is it the one where that guy rapes and kills that girl?”
Branding and marketing feature too, with t-shirts, sweaters and shoes all receiving the SMS text stamping. The project is part of his interest in this field, encapsulating his cool online aesthetic and even resharing images, including their likes and comments.
He used the residency to further his personal research in these formats, creating digital files from text and stock image along with Sketchup 3Dimension visuals and physical prints, installs and sculptures.
